7-Day Smart Phone Detox

This pandemic is really scary. I feel as though these days, the only thing on my mind is cleaning and staying clean. With all these cleaning vibes buzzing around, I felt it absolutely necessary to give my phone a cleansing as well. I want my digital environment to be as clean as my living environment. That being said, here is my 7 day smart phone / digital detox.

Too much online activity leaves me mentally drained and filled with anxiety. By setting digital boundaries for myself, I’ve seen many improvements in my own sanity and everyday lifestyle.

I enjoy the people around me more and when I’m alone, I enjoy myself more. I have way more mental energy throughout the day, and a lot more time to do things I actually enjoy considering I’m not wasting all my free time focusing on every ding, bing, and ring from my laptop and cell phone.

Delete and unfriend anyone or any company that doesn’t bring value to your life. If he, she, or it doesn’t make you feel comfortable, inspired, entertained, or uplifted, let them go. Why have someone on your newsfeed that only makes your mind or heart feel upset, angry, jealous, or any type of negativity. We don’t want to do that to ourselves. Let’s unfollow those accounts on our socials and feel good about our social media feeds. No more feeding the mind toxic content.

    Unsubscribe + Delete + Cancel
Unsubscribe from all email subscriptions that aren’t relevant to your livelihood. Still receiving emails from 3 years ago that you constantly have to delete or ignore? Just use the time now too unsubscribe from that specific mailing list. This way you aren’t constantly being bugged with unnecessary emails and your inbox won’t pile up.
Delete all messages and apps that are just taking up space on your device.

  • Wednesday
    Turn off all push notifications.
This has been a life changer for me. I feel way more in control of my mind and what I focus my attention on. When I used to have push notifications on, I would easily get lost in the sauce. As soon as my phone ‘binged’, my attention went straight to the Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp group chats, and Instagram notifications. I haven’t had push notifications turned on for about a year and half now, and I love it. I choose when I want to look at social media, emails, and messages. I took control of my life. I use more of my free time meditating, enjoying the people around me, going outdoors, and trying new hobbies.

Charge your phone on the other side of your bedroom and not in arms reach. This helps with many things. It allows the brain to fall asleep properly. Doing this also helps me refrain from pushing the snooze button as soon as the alarm goes off. I’m able to get out of bed to turn off the alarm, so I might as well just get a move on with the day since I’m already up. I have problems sleeping at night and I'm quick to grab my phone if it’s next to me and start scrolling through Insta. That’s bad for my brain as it gets my mind into power mode, leaving me fatigue and zombified the next day. I can’t give my all to a day if there isn’t anything left of me to give. Charging my phone away from me allows me to rest in bed until I fall back asleep.

  • Friday
Wake up and complete your entire morning routine without looking at your phone. This helps me enjoy my mornings and have a sense of Me Time. I feel energized and ready to take on the day.

  • Saturday
Set up night mode on your phone.

  • Sunday
Stay off of social media and don’t post anything.
