A Productive Sunday Routine | How to Plan for the Week + Get -Ish Done

Sunday is my favorite day of the week ~ Monday being my second. I know I sound like a lunatic, but I must say a well spent Sunday sets you up for a marvelous Monday. Sunday excites me because I get to unwind and relax, but I also plan, finish laundry, clean, and schedule for the week ahead. Allowing me to step into the new week feeling positive, productive, purposeful. Over the years, I’ve figured out a Sunday routine that allows me to boost productivity with minimal anxiety and you better believe I’m sharing it with you all.

“A Sunday well spent brings a week of content”

  • Get up early

Why!? Well, simply because “if you snooze you lose.” Now I must admit that I’m a huge morning person but that is because I intentionally formed healthy morning habits and practiced them daily. I don’t play about my morning routine, but that’s a discussion for another time. I choose to wake up at 5 AM on Sundays in order to start my morning mindfully and on the right foot. You don’t have to wake up super early in order to have the best morning routine. The point is to wake up and spend enough quality time with yourself before the world unfolds for the day. I wake up early, dive into my morning rituals, drink water, and head to the kitchen.

  • Tea, journal, + meditate

There are two types of people in this world: the Coffee Lovers and the Tea Drinkers. I for one love a good cup of herbal tea. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a rich black Americano. Recently, I’ve been into making homemade iced coffee, while other times I’m more into my classic crystallized Jamaican Ginger Tea with some Fever Grass. Whatever your kick start drink of choice is, enjoy it while journaling, reviewing your todo list, and visualizing your day. I then like to take a few minutes to meditate. Once I take care of the mental, I’m ready to start everything else.

  • Laundry

I often begin doing laundry on Friday and finish on Sundays. I wish it was due to the fact that the house smells like fresh linen in spring throughout my home, but to be quite honest, I do this because I know within myself that I won’t fold, iron, and put everything away as soon as it’s done drying. haha.

Sundays are the perfect day for laundry. Planning out a couple outfits for the week ahead while putting everything away. I like to wash my linen, towels, and clothing once a week.

  • Get in some movement

  • Clean, everything

Happiness to me is a freshly cleansed home. By the end of the week, my mind is already going nuts about wanting to clean and sterilize everything. From the mirrors to the fans, and down to the floor. I do a general cleaning routine once a week, deep clean twice a month, and declutter at the beginning of every new season as I change around our home decor to match the time of year.

-Cleanliness is next to Godliness

  • Write out your weekly goals + pencil them in

I often write out my weekly goals and priorities in a notebook as I go about my Sunday. When I sit down in the late afternoon, I go through the list and add anything else I’d like to accomplish throughout the week. Prioritize the necessities. My list can range anywhere from creating content with my husband to dealing with project management work to making lesson plans. Once everything you want to accomplish has been written out, make sure to jot down some free play time too. It’s important to make time for things that make you happy. Next, it is time to choose what day you’d like to get each task completed. Here are some examples of what to put on your weekly todo list:

  • work schedule and meetings

  • school schedule and meetings

  • due dates for major projects and assignments

  • appointments | doctors, dentist, nails, eye doctor, friend dates

  • intentions | sleep 6 - 8 hrs every night, wake up at 6am drink more water

  • habit tracker | what do you need to do more of? Read once a day, make the bed as soon as you get up

I try my best to batch my work into similar groups. This helps my mind to stay a bit more focused on my task at hand and stay in the moment. My weeks are always different and new obstacles arise all day everyday, but having my own schedule allows me to deal with my own goals while juggling everything life is throwing in my direction.

  • Plan out your weekly meals

In my home, we meal prep. This allows us to not overspend and overindulge. I enjoy picking a couple different meals and snack choices for the week. I do this all on Sunday after planning my weekly todo list. I use Monday to actually grocery shop. I don’t like shopping on the weekend due to the crowd of shoppers.

  • End the evening on a good note

My Sunday evenings usually consist of a self care set up for the week ahead and winding down. I like to end the day on a good note whether that be reading a chapter out of a book, mind dumping, meditating, watching a movie with babe, or diving into a soothing bible study session. If you don’t already have a solid Sunday routine, I hope you find one that works for you by using my favorite tips.

What is something you do to prepare and keep yourself productive for the new week ahead? Let me know in the comments.

xoxo, Shanae
